Affirmative Action

Have you ever found yourself in a moment of serious resistance? Resistance to something you really wanted to try and yet you come up with a ton of bullshit reasons of why you can’t possibly do it now? I am having one of those moments right now. I really wanted to start creating again because it makes me happy. And yet I still resist. So, what is the solution? Give myself a good kick in the ass? Start complaining endlessly to others about what I can’t do? NO!  Instead, I rely on the power of affirmations in moments of doubt and resistance.

Affirmations are a form of self-care if they are written in a way that reinforces positive messages of self-approval. They are a way to honor our deepest desires and longings by speaking them into existence in the present tense. I have found them to be especially helpful in moments of resistance, because they help me to stay focused on what I want rather than on what I don’t want or what I can’t do.

I believe affirmations have the power to transform our lives, because of the consistent positive self-talk. Self-affirming talk takes root in our minds and eventually becomes automatic over time. I have found that the more consistent I am in affirming myself, the stronger my belief in myself becomes, and the more willing I am to take steps towards what I really want. It’s like a permission slip to seek out what you truly desire, and you will become a happier and healthier functioning adult.

It is a gift that keeps giving, because it teaches us to let go of limited beliefs and keep expanding and reaching out for more. I have found them to be a life saver in moments of resistance and doubt, which we all face at times. As your confidence increases, the more bold your steps will become to move towards the person you were always meant to be.
